What is Reference Based Pricing?

An employer may utilize reference-based pricing services on top of their existing PPO network or use an RBP Service to replace their current network. Why would an employer use such a service? The keyword is “transparency.” Using reference-based pricing, the employer can save money on their healthcare spend.  The RAND Corporation found that private U.S. health plans, sponsored often by the employer, pay more than 200% of what Medicare would pay. (RAND Corporation, 2021)
