PRA’s July 2023 Fifth Semi-Annual Hospital Price Transparency Rule Compliance Report delved deep into the pricing data of 100 hospitals across ten states, scrutinizing disparities in charges for five prevalent medical services: Appendectomy, Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, Caesarean Section, Cataract Surgery, and MRI of Lower Extremity Without Contrast. The findings, outlined with alarming clarity, underscore the urgent need for transparency and reform within the healthcare sector.

Within the same hospital walls, the variance in prices for identical procedures proved staggering. PRA’s analysis revealed an average range of 10.7 times when comparing negotiated rates across different insurance plans.
